NEW ZEALANDERS IN ALDERSHOT,thats what the caption to this photo says.Must be early in the war,front mud guard has had a bump but rest of bike looks like just been issued.
Some NZ forces arrived in the UK in June 1940 before leaving for Egypt but I suspect that these images relate to an earlier group of New Zealanders brought together in the south of England early in 1940.
This image from 'Motor-Cycling' was published 4th April 1940 so presumably dates from late March.
Hi looking at their equipment they are wearing 1908 pattern webbing and uniform which they would have left NZ with and was later changed to 1937 pattern and battle dress when they arrived in North Africa.The BEF also wore the 1908 and 1937.The 1908 was completely replaced after Dunkirk.
