HELLO FOLKS,I HAVE A CZ27 AMMETER WHICH I WOULD LIKE TO GET REPAIRED/OVERHAULED. CAN ANYBODY RECOMMEND A RELIABLE COMPANY I COULD ENTRUST WITH THE TASK ? MANY THANKS PETE.
Hi Pete,
this question came up some time ago.
It seems there is someone in England doing this, but the costs are very high.
But with the prices for good ammeters these days, it may be worth the money.
Ammeters are rather simple instruments, so why such high cost ?
I've had about 3 ammeters repaired over the years by Peter Bond in London http://www.guagerepairs.com/ One was for my Indian 741. The last one he did was a CZ27 and from memory it was very expensive. The face was shot and the new face sticker he'd applied was a bit ill fitting and I later replaced it myself with a better face from a buggered ammeter. So if your face is ok, get him to leave it as is. The ammeters all still work ok.
I've also tried to put the guts from a modern repro ammeter inside a CZ27 case but it doesn't line up. Ron
I think most ammeters suffer from moisture, as the glas is not really tight.
Water that comes in can't get out.
I have two original ammeters here where the needle just fell down, caused bij rust.
Now i use a repro ammeter (that doesnt work either !!)

You flip them over, drill a little hole in the side at the top & fill them with oil then seal off the hole.
You "oil cooled" ammeter will never rust & the springs will never break.
The needle will move a little slower but it will not bounce about all over the place.
Apparently this is done to avaition gauges and it was a fitter at an airport who did it for my old A10.
