I have a NOS set of girders and unfortunately original production tolerances and finishes of the fork link pins leave much to be desired...
The bushes themselves are well finished and 'bang on' size, it is the link pins that are the problem to the extent that even these new components have more clearance than would be deemed acceptable by any 'modern' standard...
So, that leaves me with a problem of the rectification of new components or an acceptance of 'excessive' clearance...In my view the former is the only way to go...
This should be born in mind when assessing the value of the forks on offer in these adverts...It could be argued that if you already have a set of worn forks an overhaul of those, although awkward, would be substantially cheaper than buying a new set, which themselves may need additional work....Ian
I had some NOS fork links from Russells and I was disappointed with the miss size and finish of the pins. Les said they were often like that! In the end I used my old links that were much nearer the original spec. Did standards slip during the late or post war period or was I fobbed off with foreign made items
It seems a fairly simple job for an engineer to make new pins and silver solder them into the links, which would be my favoured option if the need arrises. Ron
Check out what Stuart Bray is selling them for...that made me weap...then think of that Chap who bend his in Normandy one year, then think blast why didn't I buy a set a few years ago just in case..
