The threads used to fix the oil pump caps to the crankcase is badly damaged and the screws do not tighten well and there is a slip.
Please refer pic attached herewith
What is the best possible way to repair this? and what is the standard size of the screws for this set up? Finally should this be jam tight?
Any advice is going to be extremely helpful.
I'm sure they are a BA size, 3 most likely knowing AMC,I would check but as I'm moving my books are in storage along with my bikes so I can't. The simple thing to do so bore them out and tap 2 BA or a metric size with the screw heads turned down to fit the counter bore in the pump end plates. While you are there it is worth checking the condition of the pump bore as if this is worn/damaged it will cause wet sumping although it doesn't seem to effect oil operation. Also the condition of the pump pin and it's fit are important.
I hope this helps.
