I have a problem and I thought I’d ask if anyone has ideas for a solution before I start getting „creative“, i.e. reach for the angle grinder.
I’m having problems separating a recently acquired dynamo from it’s magneto. It appears that someone has used a normal screw/bolt and a domed nut to join the two instead of the square headed screw (123063) and special nut (200569) with the result that the nut and screw turn together without loosening as the screw head is not located securely in the end bracket.
I’ve tried pulling hard on the nut while turning (mole grips) but to no avail.
The screw seems to be quite short and the flats on the dome nut fitted are almost hidden in the recess in the end bracket.
Has anybody got ideas or tricks they use in such situations.
Depends how much room you have really, If you can dremmel off the dome on the nut, then cut a groove across the nut and bolt end, you may be able to get a screwdriver to the bolt end whilst holding the nut??
Not a good one, but good luck
Darren
How about a hacksaw or Dremmel cut from the top of the dome nut as far down as you can, then a small screwdriver blade in the saw cut and a bit of levering to split the nut. Ron
Hi no need to get physical take out brushes from opposite end then undo the two through bolts holding dynmo together pull it apart thus exposing the offending bolt end mal
Thought of that but the Dynamo driven gear would need to come off before you can take it apart and that is held on by a screw that is not accessible. At least as far as I can see.
What he was proposing was to leave the gear on the armature and remove everything else from the front plate of the generator leaving the armature dangling in the front bearing.
I just did a 'proof of concept' and that should give you access to the screw-head from above?
This assumes you can wriggle the body of the generator out but with the straps undone that wasn't an issue with the old generator I tried it on?
