Wonderful image Henk !

This shows troops of the Beach Group, circa June-July 1944....Normandy ? My grandfather was Bucks Battalion Oxf & Bucks LI on D-Day, his battalion part of the Beach Group.......thanks for sharing !!!!

By the way, the round insignia with the anchor on the Matchless and uniforms signifies Beach Groups........the Serial number "1336" is not listed in the records BUT "1346" is listed as RASC Beach Groups, GT Coy RASC, DUKW Coy........the records show a gap from "1318" to "1346" (but all RASC units from "1317" to "1397" with these gaps).......it is therefore assumed that these gaps were taken up by individual RASC units ?

As has been reported in the press the soldiers in
Normandy are anxiously waiting for their mail from
home, and in these section of the front the mail is
coming quite regularly.
Picture shows mail being distributed to the troops
by an officer

Re: Forum Image

Close examination of the photo shows that the headlight and the front mudguard appear to be painted in anti-gas paint just like the photo of the Triumph recently. Also the petrol cal looks to be a different colour and much darker than usual, perhaps red? There also appear to be some markings on the front mudguard but I cannot read them.

Henk, would it be possible please to have a high resolution scan of this photo?

Cheers , John Tinley
