I got talking to a very spritely gent at a show at the weekend. It turned out he had been a rider in the White Helmets team back in 1959-60. It may be common knowledge to some, but was news to me, but apparently during his time all the practising was done on M20's. The Triumphs, which belonged to the factory, were only brought out for the shows. Furthermore none of the lads in his day, apart from the instructors, were regular army men 'on a cushy number' - all of them were National Service. He had a string of entertaining stories and I had a good long chat with him and a growing bunch of onlookers who listened in on his tales. Well worth going!
