On the drive side of the M20 engine there is a shim or oil seal washer between the bearing and the crank case. This fits into a recess machined into the drive side crank case. On the gear side crank case, there also seems to be a recess machined for a similar shim, but I can't see any on the parts list. Should there be anything between the gear side ball bearing and crankcase?
There's no need for an oil baffle on the timing side as the bearings are within the engine. Any oil passing through will end up in the timing chest and drain back to the sump. Ron
The part number for the drive side shim is 66-661...
Although this is frequently omitted when a rubber sealed 6205 2RS bearing is used (with the inner seal removed), it should actually still be fitted to maintain accurate primary chain alignment..Ian
Thanks Ian and Ron. I have the new drive side shim fitted, I just wasn't sure if I was missing something from the timing side as there seems to be a similar recess in the casing.
