Exhaust pipe and silencer

I'm looking for an exhaust pipe and silencer for my latest early panel tank G3WO Matchless. Armours tell me they do not have any in stock and cannot commit to when they will have any. Does anyone know of another supplier of exhaust pipe and silencers that I can try? Cheers, John Tinley

Re: Exhaust pipe and silencer

John, try Feked. There are problems at Armours which I can't go into just now.

Re: Exhaust pipe and silencer

Feked are every bit as bad as Armours.
This time last year I went there for a pipe for a similar Matchless, needed making to patern and I'm ready to pay well for a one off, or maybe even 5 for a rareish bike.

Basically they just could not be bothered.
Totally disinterested.

Business must be very good in the bike exhaust world.

I gave up on Armours 30yrs ago, they have always been a byword for rudeness, arrogance and poor service. I'm amazed they are still in business, even after selling all those pipes to people whose bikes were wrong for their pipes.

Re: Exhaust pipe and silencer

My view as well...With Armours there's little or no determination to get the job right even though they are taking plenty of your hard earned money..

The company has changed hands within the last thirty years but sadly that hasn't improved things at all...

Doing a good job requires, obviously, the skills and the correct tooling...and I know for a fact whoever is bending the pipes isn't using the right tooling...

You only have to look at the distortion of the pipe at the bends to know that...

Ultimately though, even with the skills and tooling producing a good job is the result primarily of the proper state of mind...

Armours aren't alone in, apparently, not giving a s**t...

Personally I never try to justify or make excuses for the poor work produced by these businesses...Why should I have to?....

What makes it even more annoying is that they haven't got the honesty to own up to it and address their failings, they just keep knowingly selling more incorrect parts....Ian

Re: Exhaust pipe and silencer

John, I must have been lucky because I got a G3WO silencer from Armours a couple of weeks ago. There is an Austrian company that seems to do a very wide range of British bike parts including AMC.......early ones, too. Cannot see G3WO, but there are some Matchless "V Twin" silencers that look similar. http://www.vintage-motorcycle.com/index.php?language=en&site=4&pid=285

"they just keep knowingly selling more incorrect parts."

Its your bike thats wrong sir, we've sold 1000s and had no complaints before.

Back the 1980s that was the reply [as ever] I got from them a dud set of TR6 pipes; I explained how the reduced portion over the stubs must have slipped when it was welded.

Not our pipes sir.

I put the bike in the back of the van and drove down to the shop and showed them the pipes which were stuck under the seat they were so far out of true.

Even then you could see the guy struggling to find an excuse.
I got them changed in the end, to my cost and time wasted.

I remember them when they first started and were looking for pots of original paint for bikes, to get a match; in fact I sent them some, FOC.
Got bugger all thanks.
As far as I am concerned the sooner they are out of business the better.

The worst off are the poor blokes abroad who lose all their money because of the expense of returning dud stuff.

From my experience Feked are nearly as bad and free cups of tea are no
substitute.

As for G3WO silencers, a few years back I bought an excellent unchromed repro off Ron Pier at Netley, correct even to internal baffles.
Last one so it looks as if he needs to get some more made?

The G3WO silencers are the same as the late V twins and pre war Matchless with the curved tail pipe, but a smaller inlet onthe G3 ones.
