Mad #6

I just saw this on another site.

http://www.itv.com/news/anglia/2016-05-21/injunction-taken-out-against-bikers-in-harlow/

More than two bikes in Harlow and you could get arrested I hope this sort of thing doesn't spread, although I've heard similar rumblings from somewhere in the Midlands.

So far it's actively encouraged here in Poole, with thousands of bikes descending on Poole Quay every Tuesday. Ron

Re: Mad #6

If I read the article correctly, it's only allowed to ride by yourself....it's even forbidden to ride with two bikes.....that's a bit harsh...

Re: Mad #6

Various ways of screwing us over - latest is MATLOCK BATHS -

A Victorian 'resort' which fell out of fashion many years ago, which as far as i can remember has largely been kept in business since the 1970's (and before i guess?) by the m/c crowd, who flock there EVERY WEEKEND in literally their hundreds - attracting spectators as well (dad looking at bikes while mother goes to factory shop).

So what has the local council decided to do - force the bikes to some out of the area car-park - at a cost (where do you attach paper parking tickets ?) and impose ludicrous parking fee's on the car only street parking.
Then enforcing it - rigorously !

Last weekend the shop owners were up in arms - so who came up with this money spinner, s**t idea is anyone's guess !

A good few years ago SHERBOURNE CAFE - a bike haunt just south of YORK - was forced out of the village "because of biking related trouble ????".
So the owner simply bought up a old pub OUTSIDE village limits and simply expanded it - for even more bikes!
The bikes, still have to drive through Sherbourne - in their droves - so that was a solution (unintended consequences)!!!!!

Re: Mad #6

Well I can see some merit in the idea.
I live on a popular biking route
Now funny enough I do not get intimidated by seeing a lot of motorcycles.
I ride them so know when one hits the deck the rider does lot leap up and beat the person he thinks responsibe to a pulp.

However I don't watch television like the civic leader do.

OTOH it is nothing for 150 HD's with open pipes to ride past, going down one of the steepest grades in NSW on over run and it can get a tad annoying.
The road is a back road and every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and some Sunday evenings 50 to 100 bikies ( not wearing colour ) ride past in groups of 5 to 10 ferrying the "party supplies" from the lab a few miles down the road into the city.
Then some time after 4am each day they return usually flying high, showing colours in groups of 20 to 50. The house is 50 meters from the road and there can be enough sound waves to rattle windows, set off burgular alarms and knock things off shelves.

Then when daylight comes we get the groups of crouch rockets where the rider is in such a cramped position it seem impossible for them to change gears till they have wound the tacho off the dial.

When it warms up a bit around the 9 am mark, the old farts start coming past again in groups of up to 50 riders, not quite so obnoxious , but by now quite annoying.
An hour latter the car pic-nickers come past , each one playing music so loud you can see the metal pannels of the car flexing and of course all playing different music
By 11 the Duff Duff crowd are assembling in one park on the other side of the river competing with the Arabs in the opposite park playing Arabic wailing type music over their PA.
They leave just about the same time that the bikies start their evening courier runs.
And then there are the cheapskates who drive down the side road to a simming holeso they can walk in and avoid the car charge, For some reason after the swim they have to stoppies and burnouts when they are not dragging each other on a narrow road with lots of blind corners and little white crosses at the side of the road.
I have 1/2 mile of street frontage and collect around 20 liters of glass bottles from the side of the raod each time I mow and I have given up on collecting the plastic ones and cans.

And then there is the quarry with all the trainee drivers that miss a gear and have to run through all 26 of them getting up the hill.

So yes there are some in the community who are pushing to have the road closed with a locked gate for residents only and there are times I feel inclined to support them.

I did notice that the injunction specifically mentioned "non authorised" so obviously the council will allow you there, you just have to ask.

Re: Mad #6

There is always a 'back story' which is frequently not explained in the interests of an unbalanced but eye catching headline...

Nobody will be welcome anywhere if they behave with disregard for the people around them...Did that happen here or is it just paranoia on the part of the 'powers that be'?...

It seems illogical to ban anyone from anywhere if they haven't provided a reason to do so...

Darren is probably right though..it is all down to the EU.. ..

Re: Mad #6

I live about 5 miles from Harlow and not heard of this. A few bikers meet up at High Beech near Epping every weekend and that is about it.

Having said that, I am not part of the sports bike scene and spend an obsessive amount of time carp fishing.

Was thinking of a new TV series called The Fishy Bikers where you ride to different carp and catfish venues in Europe on the M20. I think this is a great idea! I would watch it!

Ron.
Perhaps they should do this with cars, ie, more than two cars together and you could get arrested, the authorities could make a fortune but getting back to this subject I cannot see how they could legally impose this on motorcyclist, after all we all pay our dues to use the roads, if this happens then I think we should stand up for our rights together and fight.

Re: Mad #6

The council and Police have now realised what prats they've been and have back-tracked.

The problem seems to have been that a local lad took his own life and all his mates decided to meet up in the centre of town on their BMXs, field bikes and unregistered quads in some rather sickly display of grief akin to flowers and soft toys tied to roadside trees.

Unfortunately, they appear to have called this gathering a 'ride-out' and the council have taken on this rather odd term which almost certainly has no legal definition. Is a 'ride-out' the sort of thing that bike clubs do to raise money for charities ?

http://www.harlow.gov.uk/pr16-26

Without a definition of what a 'ride-out' is, how one can be authorised and by whom...and just what they're authorising, the whole thing is a bit of a joke. If there is any criminal activity then existing law is more than adequate...but probably in any area where large numbers of vehicles are going to come together and not want to be moved on, it's not a bad idea to advise the council and the police.

Re: Mad #6

it looks like the ride out will have to start early 4 o'clock in the morning and finished by 10 o'clock

Re: Mad #6

I live 3/4 mile away from the A19 - over the years the farmers have pulled up hedge's and cut down trees.

Now on a calm Thursday or a sunny weekend its like the IOM - with bikes howling away, all day.

Mind you, if its sunny, the strimmers and lawn-mowers usually manage to drown out the Silage machine next door, Cows calling for their calf's (dairy farm), cockerels, etc. etc.

As a friend from London said ..... thought it was quiet in the country ???
