RIP Donald Fife

Rest in Peace to a local DR who I learned about from this forum, Donald Fife, April 7, 1945. A native of Nova Scotia, Canada, he died in action at age 22. We will remember.

Re: RIP Donald Fife

Sunday April 10, at 11:00h some of us will be at the Holten Canadian cemetery to lay flowers on his grave in remembrance of this young soldier, and all those that gave their lives for our liberation.

Re: RIP Donald Fife

Henk, The forum photo of Don Fife is one that I haven't seen before. Do you have a better copy or a source for the original ? I Have the impression that it almost ought to be possible to read the census number and identify his machine.

I've also realised for the first time that he has a pair of goggles on his helmet and another set hanging from the bars !

Re: RIP Donald Fife

The Fife family has a few photos of Donald after the invasion, his sister-in- law remarked in some of them how "tired he looked" very evident here, with the bags under the eyes.

Interestingly, you could pretty much determine the exact hour the photo was taken by the suns position through the window, shinning on the altar.

Re: RIP Donald Fife

Re: RIP Donald Fife

I'd like them too please Henk.

The lump will be a field dressing under his cammo net.

It was quite common to carry the necessary field dressing & small items in the netting of the helmet, for emergencies.
