Off topic query...

I've come across a set of aircraft recognition cards...These consist of 4 sets of playing cards showing American, British and German aircraft on the reverse sides....

The cards come in a WD marked box, 1941 dated and an explanatory leaflet is also enclosed..

I am told they were issued to anti aircraft battery and observer corps staff so that they could brush up on their aircraft recognition while they filled in the hours of inactivity playing cards!...

The set is in very nice condition...The problem is I have no idea what they may be worth but feel they are worth securing as an interesting wartime item..

Any ideas from you militaria/aircraft buffs?...Ian

Re: Off topic query...

They sound good Ian, I don't know what they're worth but when I was in the Air cadets in the mid 70's all we did when we weren't marching up and down the yard was sit in the hut with silhouette aircraft recognition cards. I was quite good at it because I'd made lots of airfix planes. Unfortunately the cards weren't playing cards

Hi Ian

Try a search on ebay, then go to the advanced setting and click the box marked "sold" and you can see what people have paid recently.

Re: Off topic query...

Most of the ones I could find were much later than WW2...In fact I only found one WW2 item, a single pack of cards, not boxed, marked and dated as a set of 4....

However, it seems probable I won't have to pay too much to get them...Ian

Re: Off topic query...

My grandfather used to have a couple of the US Civil Air Patrol sets. They looked really similar to these -

No handy box to keep them in so I would think you have something rare in just the box itself.
