Rear Wheel Bearings

Has anybody used the 30204 type bearing in the rear wheel? Looks like they are .87mm wider (x 2 = 1.74mm) I know its not a lot but it may well be the deference to something else not fitting.
Thanks, Ian..

Re: Rear Wheel Bearings

Hi Ian...Yes, I've used them...I have them in my M20 at the moment...

Inside the hub behind each bearing outer is a machined spacer...The thickness of this can be altered to adjust any differences...Ian

Re: Rear Wheel Bearings

Hello chaps,
I've just fitted some 30204 bearings to the back of my m20 and the spacer behind the bearing out needs to be thinner to accommodate the additional thickness of the new bearing, before I start searching for material to get them made does anyone on the forum turn them out by chance.
Thanks in advance

Re: Rear Wheel Bearings

Hi Alwyn,

I replaced my rear wheel bearings some 8 years ago,
But as far as I remember, I left one spacer out,
And all was balanced just right.
I do not know if that is the correct way to do it,
But all looks and work just fine.

Regards,
Noam.

Re: Rear Wheel Bearings

Hi Noam
thanks for the reply, I made some spacers last night using 3mm plate my pillar drill and a couple of different hole saws! worked a treat
Thanks again

Re: Rear Wheel Bearings

I took .060" off the spindle nut 15-7049, it also allows the lock nut, 26-6861, to go on a bit further.

Re: Rear Wheel Bearings

I went a slightly different route and skimmed a "shoulder" on the two spacers that go under the cup bearings in the hub.

I reckoned I could cut some metal off there and not weaken the spacer much. It only needed 1mm depth of cut to clear the inner ridge in the hub and let the spacer slip down to the correct level. Now everything fits very neatly. I haven't taken it on the road yet.

As ever, Allan
