French vs English registration records ?

Hi All ..Anyone know anything about French registration numbers/records? Is it possible to find out the history of a machine that has a French reg number in the same way you can work out history from English plates and Council archive records if they are still kept?
Any comments appreciated...the reg number is "5892 A 75".
Thanks Andy

Re: French vs English registration records ?

The french reg system changed wholesale in the early 50s and I don't think its possible to track back, one of our french members will know better, if they can get through the fug of burning tyres over there that is.

Meanwhile I can say that 75 means it was registered in Paris at some time.

Hi Ian.....it the Royal Enfield WD/CO that was next to your plot at Stafford.... ..now UK Registered and running sweet so the gamble of buying a French none runner payed off. Just trying to get some history if possible.

Re: French vs English registration records ?

Hi all,
very sorry for you, absolutly no official source of informations on civilian or military vehicle registered in France, for civilian ones a good "gendarme" ( preferable to be a good friend) could help, but for military it's very very hard... or impossible.
