I had a day trip to W&P at Folkstone yesterday, met up with Lex, Rob Miller, Rob Van Meel and others. I also met with Rex Cadman and Georgina Martin as I've been helping them with parts and information for their Big 4.
Who was there with Rex, but our own John Allison who it turns out is taking over the running of W&P for the future. The venue remains the same for the next two years at least.
Hi Ron
What did you think of the show this year?
We are thinking of going but with all the trouble at Calais we wasn't sure if it was going to put any traders off going, it's a long slog for us to go and be disappointed
Thanks steve
Getting to the Show has been a pain in the neck for some thanks to France's inability to enforce its own laws, but the camping field is fuller than in previous years. However, the military vehicle display areas are thinner and I think the MV numbers will be down due to a number of factors. Not by a great deal, I hasten to add, and a lot of folk were heading back yesterday due to the rain forecast for today. The stalls area was as per previous years and I found some good buys at reasonable prices. It should be noted that access by the train was popular this year for day trippers and this is a big advantage for this site with direct access from London to the site entrance.
I went on sat afternoon as only an a few miles away, bit muddy but had a fair mooch around the stalls as regretfully away in Ireland this week (the Guinness and people are always good but it was business),I was going today but raining in Canterbury now so me thinks not worth it now as a lot of stall holders had pulled off site last night and more mud yet to come,I'm with the Kent desert rats (time line) and our gulf war chaps were there but not the ww2 crowd so I didn't take the m20 bike down, As a founder member of Imps I have seen the show grow and of course change over the years and Rex has guided the show against a lot of odds, and adversity and done a fantastic job, but now its time for a change , what the changes will be we will not know till john tells us, for the ( re enactment) not sure about that word, I think of these displays as (an impression) a snap shot of time ,I would like to see a walk though a history time line a bit like the odyssey But as rex might say its like herding cats organising us independent free thinking lot, every one wants to do their own thing, that's not at all military is it , wouldn't it be great if there were definitive areas for Vietnam , the USA in Europe , the commonwealth in Europe the jungle the desert war and so on with good signing to these areas, I'm well aware that Imps was formed for the collectors of ex military vehicles and there is a very large number of visitors who don't wish to participate in the wearing of period uniforms but that has changed dramatically In the last 25 years of this show, now Most vehicle owners at least will wear green or sand coloured clothing with the younger family members carefully choosing their choice of dress and getting it right as the veterans would say, anyway see you at combined opps or the odyssey perhaps a
email (option): warbikes at gee male, dit cmm,( you will have to think about this address)
Just back today from W&P with a family visit to Sussex on the way home, I agree that the interesting vehicle numbers seemed to be down but in my opinion overall the show was as big and good as the year before.
And I would like to wish John good luck with his show over the coming years.
