I seem to remember a proper dog leg spanner for the job. But it's not shown in the tools section (accessories). I always manage to do it with a fairly long 5/16th combination spanner by turning it this way and that. If I had to, I'd modify a spanner to a required shape with heat. Make sure the nut spins down easily before reassembly. Ron
The 1946-1958 illustrated list of special tools shows what is basically a round piece of bar with a hexagonal hole all the way through it...Note: hexagonal, not 12 sided like a standard socket..
A cranked handle is welded to the side of the 'socket' to give leverage and clearance over the timing cover etc... Part No. 61-3052 (M20/21)(£1-1s-2d)
I don't have this tool and have always used a spanner as detailed by Ron...Ian
I haven't had much luck with a spanner in the past.
I have ground down a 5/16 socket and will weld it to a ring spanner that fits over the socket. From my other post you can see I managed to get the barrel off.
That nut wasn't particularly tight. I wonder if this caused my piston damage?
