The chain case seems to fill up with oil which then leaks out at the hole that the rod for the footrest goes on. I removed the plug on the side/bottom and about a half pint of dino leaked out. What's happening here? Thanks, Bob
If you are seeing excessive oil building up in the primary chain case, it's almost certain to be engine oil being pushed into the case due to high crankcase pressure.
A plugged breather could account for crankcase pressure building up causing engine oil to be driven into the primary, or excessive crankcase pressure could be the result of leakage of combustion gasses past the piston rings.
A plugged breather is an easy fix, combustion blow-by requires a top end overhaul.
Or it could simply be that your engine is wet sumping while stood still. The crankcase can fill to the level of the main bearings and flow through to the primary case. Remove the crank case drain plug to see how much oil is in there. Ron
Thanks to all who responded. Yes, the crankcase had maybe 3/4 of a quart of oil in it. Will check the breather tomorrow. I have new cork gasket on it. Cheers, Bob
Surprise...I checked the plug screw for the pressure valve on the timing cover, the spring was in there but no ball. I could insert I thin wire into the orifice about 2.5 in. I was thinking of squirting some WD40 in there and then hit it with some compressed air to clean it out. What do you guys think?
Well a 1/4" steel ball can be bought from most bearing suppliers or on line. I'd like to be stood near by when you ask the salesman for 'ONE' steel ball. Otherwise you can get one plus a new spring and sealing washer from Draganfly, Russell's or C&D autos. Ron
