Ian I have found it much easier to buy genuine Amal carbs and parts from Hitchcock's rather than Burlen/Amal themselves. My friend Graham ordered a concentric for his Ariel from Burlen and in a misunderstanding in communications, we went to Salisbury to collect it, only to be told that it wouldn't be ready for 6-8 weeks and they weren't prepared to build one while we wait, even though they had all the parts in stock. Apparently, according to the snotty guy we met, Amal is only a small part of their business and not worth putting themselves out over. Ron
I found Hirchcocks really good and able to supply all the bits I needed to rebuild my 275 Amal. I visited the Hitchcock emporium several years ago to buy a wax jacket and they have a really delightful place in a lovely setting. RE heaven!
Currently working my way, downwards in carb I/d on the B25 - have a 26mm kehien on it now, no flat spot and revs better than it has done - probably due to better jetting - that's what's she's running this weekend.
Had a flat slide OKO on it - certainly went well but cannot stop it flooding.
Could not get an original mk1 concentric to work on it at all (?)
And despite very determined attempts, could not get the mk2 28/30/34 to work without a debilitating flat-spot either.
Have been suspecting the Eletrex ignition for a while - which shows no advance/retard worth measuring - however the very strong spark/good starting has tended to color my judgment.
Remember - if you are convinced its ignition ...................
it's carburation .................
and visa versa !!!
I've gone with my original plan and bought a 34mm carb...
It's worth noting that nothing about my 'M20' engine is even remotely close to the standard specification...
Valve sizes, port position and shape, cylinder head volume and shape, cam profiles, bore, stroke and capacity, crank specs., piston specs etc etc. have all been substantially altered and the carb has been selected to run with these modifications...
The bike is being built primarily to do 'flying quarter' runs ..Ian
Looking more like i'll be sprinting next year, body is starting to fall apart (operation on knee last year, two operations on shoulder with one more to come this year!)so my Enduro/Mx days may be coming to an end...
I think i'll be @ east Kirby for the next sprint - be nice to see the LANC. again.
