Re: Flea parts wanted

Hitchcocks have some cork inserts and say's the following ...............

CORK INSERTS, can use 20156 and trim down.

Code: 29822

Temporarily Unavailable

CORK, CLUTCH PLATE, MEDIUM

Code: 20156

Price: £1.32

The question is how do you trim these down , are they a tight fit or do you glue them in place with some sort of adhesive ?

Thanks

Re: Flea parts wanted

Normally you boil the cork inserts, then they are very soft, and you can insert them in the metal holes.

I assume the corks Hitchcocks sell are just too big on the outside, so with a sharp knife you can trim the edges, always leave enough material so they will be a tight fit! (try out one first)

After fitting and drying, take a piece of flat glass and tape a big enough piece of medium course sandpaper to it, and sand the plates flat on it.

Hope this helps,

Cheers,

Lex

Re: Flea parts wanted

Thanks for that Lex.It has actually been rubbing on the clutch centre , front plate and scarred the clutch sprocket

Re: Flea parts wanted

I'm sure the James ML clutch was identical to the flea one, try Villiers services

Re: Flea parts wanted

Thanks Dave
I'll give them a try.

Just had a quick look on their website , I see they re-cork clutch plates so maybe there's a good chance they can do this one .

Re: Flea parts wanted

I'm pretty sure the whole clutch was the same, I'd have thought that that they'd have used their own clutch on their own engine but I think they must have used the whole clutch. I have a spare clutch chain wheel for my ML it's a used one, but I think it was ok. Sometimes if you ring Hitchcocks they do have the parts but they don't have sufficient to warrant putting it on the online spares list, or they may have a shop soiled one that they don't deem fit to sell as a new one.

Re: Flea parts wanted

The cork inserts on the Flea are 3/8ths inch thick when new.........

The clutch assembly is NOT the same as the James ML which uses a Villiers Clutch.........

The Flea clutch sprocket incorporates the cork inserts and ball bearings within the assembly............

I have a spare in decent condition, although it may need re-corking........ Email me Dave.........

Still need to look through my flywheels to see if I have a narrow wartime set in good order spare......
