Hi guys - I'm in need of a pair of replacement fuel taps, but, I have no idea what the threads should be :-(
Can anyone help please?
I've been looking on here and gave up due to the variety of threads available :-(
Are you talking about a WM20? If so, you should have adapters in your tank to take 1/8 BSP taps with 1/4 BSP threads for the fuel pipes. Of course your adapters might have been changed to take the more available 1/4 BSP taps.
BSP sizes are a bit confusing. An 1/8" BSP thread will measure 3/8" diameter and a 1/4" BSP will measure 1/2". So you should be able to determine what you need by offering a 3/8" bolt for size comparison......Just don't try and screw it in. Ron
The tank adapters could have either an 1//8" or 1/4" BSP thread which can be identified as Ron describes..Many bikes have had the adapters changed over the years.
Note that motorcycles use the parallel form of the British Standard Pipe thread, not the tapered form used on plumbing fittings, so what can be found at B&Q etc. isn't the same...
If you are planning to fit standard taps or many of the replica taps available out there get ready for a spell of trying to stop them leaking...
Personally I use BAP taps that don't leak at all but they are visually not 100% correct...not that they are all that visible...
The decision you make over taps may therefore determine which tank adapter (and petrol pipe ends) you need...Ian
