Timming

Hi, new to the forum, I have been running a C10 for a while but I have just obtained a WM20, I would like to check the trimming etc, I have read the tech section and understand how to do the timing however when doing the point gap do you have the advance lever fully advanced when you do it or in the closed position? Some excellent reading on here. Cheers Roger

Re: Timming

The advance/retard lever position should not enter into setting the points gap, but to simplify the discussion, place your lever at full advance.

All you are really interested in is finding the location of greatest opening of the contacts in relation to the face cam of the magneto.

Turn the magneto until the point of greatest opening has been reached, then adjust the contact points to achieve the clearance you want.

Re: Timming

Roger the ignition should be in the fully advanced position with the piston at 7/16" BTDC on compression stroke. That is, handlebar lever pulled fully towards you if you have the correct 'tight wire advance' mag fitted. Points should just be breaking. I use a 1 1/2 thou feeler. Ron

Re: Timming

All done, made a fancy little pin to drop in the bolt hole to measure the 7/16, set timing then the points runs better, probably need to tickle the car by, I've got a couple of fuel seeps, need to hunt down a car by kit. Making a noise when idling like it is trying to pull itself into gear, a little up lift on the gear shift and it stops, type of a squealing type sound any ideas
Cheers
