Guys,

Anyone know the correct way to remove a Flea Flywheel please?

Re: Flea Flywheel Removal

Undo the centre nut, it will then go loose then tight again. Keep winding the nut as it acts as a puller. Ron

Re: Flea Flywheel Removal

NO NO NO!! Ron are you on a jetlag???

That is the procedure for Villiers flywheels, you will very quickly ruin a Flea crank (and they are unobtainable) if you do anything wrong here.

You will need the special puller as drawn in the manual, make one or I may have a spare repro one for sale. let me know.

Cheers,

['NO NO NO!!']....

Calm down Lex...Sit down and have a nice cup of tea.... ...Ian

Re: Flea Flywheel Removal

Hahaha, well, I just don't like another Flea crank to be ruined and getting hundreds of emails asking for a crank again.

Ron knows me, and I like him a lot, we had a lovely run to the Fresney chapel in Normandy!

Cheers, and thanks for your concern about my sanity, it's a lot worse actually!

Re: Flea Flywheel Removal

Oh bugger me! Sorry everyone, I was obviously thinking of the James ML flywheel, which is the last one I worked on. Last thing I wanted to do was add to Lex's mental instability.....If all else fails, 'RTFM' (Read the F*cking manual)

Yes a nice run to Fresney Lex and the only one of 10 bikes to break down was the Rotax Harley His cam belt shredded itself, but fortunately he had a spare with him. All I had to do was phone 'Conquest Motorcycles' in England to find out how to re time it

Re: Flea Flywheel Removal

That's an unusual problem for a Rotax...Had he exceeded the belt replacement interval?....

Fortunately it's a simple job...Ian

Re: Flea Flywheel Removal

Gawd knows Ian! Yes a very simple job, but you still need to know the timing arrangement. But we were also very fortunate that we had the help of a passing French motorist.....who didn't speak a word of English Ron

Re: Flea Flywheel Removal

We had some great rides and strangely not an M20 in sight..!! Where did they all go after last year? Or maybe being rebuilt now. Royal Enfield's seemed to be the most common this year, but John O'B did have the token BSA at the end of the week.

Re: Flea Flywheel Removal

You also need to insert a BSF-threaded screw or bolt into the end of the flywheel shaft (not sure what thread diameter atm) to avoid damaging the end of the shaft when using the extractor............this is sternly mentioned in the workshop manual !!!

Re: Flea Flywheel Removal

Although Dave kindly lent me his puller, I had to forward this on to anothe or Flea owner before I go to use it. Anyone know where I can buy a puller. Tried Hitchcocks and they don't have any.
