Re: HELP...big time ....

I have some Flywheels Chris.........

But note........wartime and post-war vary in size and are not interchangeable.......post-war are larger and strengthened..........crankcases too are altered to accommodate the different flywheels........

I have maybe only one spare set of each........need your engine and frame number and then the exact measurements of your conrod base, and flywheels..........email me to discuss further..........I am very busy atm so may be a delay in replying..........

Re: HELP...big time ....

It is definitely a wartime set of flywheels, we've been through all this with Hitchcocks and have the new big end but the pin is loose in the timing side flywheel and also the shaft is slightly bent, but because of its counterweight design it will prove very difficult to clock the shaft or indeed even press it straight, even if I could overcome the loose pin problem, I had a spare set, but mine were very worn where they pass through the little bearing on the timing cover. The crank is that bad that when I test fitted the crank in the cases to see if I could straighten the shaft when it was fitted in the case, I separated the crankcase and the crank came apart with the cases. I did think of plating the loose side of the pin, but with the other problem too it started to dawn on me that it was beyond use. I don't think the crank has a centre hole in the back so that I can do it between centres (if my memory serves me right) and the taper had slight damage to its end which I've cleaned up to fit the cam but the hole in the end may be slightly off centre because it has been hit, which won't affect it in use, but it certainly makes checking the shaft nearly impossible. I've tried assembling it between centres and on knife edge rollers and it's definitely bent
