Some of you may remember this time last year I got hold of the wreck of an Ariel WNG. well after many hours making parts and scouring ebay inc India.i finished the project in March of this year. Since then I have completed over 1000 trouble free (apart from a couple of oil leaks) miles, 450 of these in Belgium I call it Bombay special as Girder forks, toolboxes, mudgaurds, rear stand have all come from India!(did not want to pay a grand to have forks retubed) I fitted a BAP gearbox(courtesy of Rick) as CP box was f..ked, anyway BAP has bigger bearings and closer ratios, its got a 16H rear hub as that was what was on it! Anyway here it be.
in Belgium.
.
On a speed run got to 70mph.
P.s as found out by Steve and others frame was navy and engine was RAF, so its finished in dockyard grey just to be different!
Looks a treat, Baz. Another Ariel brought back to life and giving good service.
You are the first person I know of who took a chance on the Indian forks. Did you give them a close up comparison look to the originals? I also have Indian guards and rear stand. Why not? When they get it right it's good and makes a restoration a lot easier. Tracking originals isn't always possible.
The Indian forks came all complete for £350, there are lots of weld splashes and rough bits also they welded the brake stay on the wrong side! but I have given them a good test over potholes, cobbles in Belgium and so far all is well. If you want a Mint set of forks you will have to spend time with dremel and grinder to remove all blemishes but what the hell this is a military bike so who cares. All the girder fork repairers I called quoted between £600 and a grand to retube old forks not including rebushing, springs, links etc.
