I have just stripped down my gearbox and everything looks pretty good to be honest. Are the 2 bearings and leather seal available? If I change the larger bearing is it worth using a rubber sealed one ? Lastly the only thing that looks really knackered is the chain sprocket are these available ? Cheers Graeme
Yes AMC spares have both bearings you will also need a new oil seal kit that replaces the old seal you can also get a new sprocket give them a ring and talk to them they will help i am sure.
Check the kickstart case very carefully though........every single Burman box I've stripped has had some damage or wear in this area...........be it gear-change or kick-start..............even had several fractures of the alloy gear-change (spring) box...........worth checking every item after cleaning.........
I can vouch for that! My springbox was cracked and distorted to the point where the spring plates jammed in the slots. The post was jammed in with strips of Guinness can!%20void(0);
The gear-change spring-box is made from some kind of alloy, possibly "Mazak" or similar......this doesn't age particularly well and you need to check very carefully for any hairline cracks or fractures in this particular component....
Burman CP boxes tend to be a tad clunky in operation and I run the one in the Ariel on a mixture of oil and semi-fluid grease......fortunately, the bearing and seal on the drive end can be improved upon and all parts are still fairly easily available........
AMC Spares, Russell Motors and Draganfly all stock Burman components.........
When you get the large bearing for the gearbox take out the seal on the side that will be on the inside of the gearbox because they are sealed for life but life will be longer if it can be oiled from the gearbox ?? greased because you will not keep oil in it.
