Re: Bantam on Oz E bay with familiar air cleaner!!!!!

Very common to have a Vokes fitted to a Bantam.
I had 2 like that.
here were a lot of surplus filters kicking around post WWII and unlike damp old England, it gets very ry & dustly down here so the normal air strainers just don't cut the mustard.

Almost every Bantam used on farm would have a Vokes fitted to it some where.
Cheap to buy surplus and virtually never ned to be washed on a 125 let alone replaced.

He's very proud of that Bantam, isn't he? Or perhaps you're paying for the Vokes, and he throws the bike in for free?

I'd love to buy it...."Could you post the Vokes to me and throw the stink-wheel in a skip ?"

Re: Bantam on Oz E bay with familiar air cleaner!!!!!

Hi Rik,
I love the smell of a smoking Bantam in the morning!!!
I have a 1949 rigid, you either love them or hate them.
I the former, most blokes my age that grew up on farms were brought up on Bantams, rounding up the sheep or cattle.

Re: Bantam on Oz E bay with familiar air cleaner!!!!!

I believe that the first proper bike I ever rode was a Bantam field bike and I've skinned my shins on a few examples since (that bloody kick-start !)

Memories of trying to de-coke them with corks and caustic soda...just like this old boy -

I'd never have dared that close to Mum's washing though !

Re: Bantam on Oz E bay with familiar air cleaner!!!!!

My Bantam broke down one time too many...I left it up a dead end street in Plymouth and never went back for it... ...Ian

Re: Bantam on Oz E bay with familiar air cleaner!!!!!

Mine (and mates) ex-GPO D1 Bantam painted BR-Loco front-yellow thanks to a mates Dad who worked at Swindon railways works ended it's days in a water-filled gravel pit after dying from incessant thrashing.............somewhere near Dorcan, Swindon, just off the A419...........(bet it's still in there too !).....
