Regarding the horn on my M20...I have an inop ClearHooter 6v 180 with a cast iron body. Was this the original horn for my 1943? I did ask the girls at a well known eating/drinking establishment here in the States but they claim to know nothing and looked at me funny. So much for Hooter's...
No Bob. The Clear Hooters 180 with the cast iron shell that looks like a Lucas Altette is a post war item (often found in crinkle black) and fitted to Triumph's TRW for one.
Your 1943 M20 should have an Altette HF1235. Have a look at the technical page on this site. Ron
Hi Ron, Thanks for directing me to the technical page. Upon reexamination, I see that my horn is actually marked HF-180 A. The photos of the HF-180 have a slightly different face, with a cast body. Maybe it was a replacement in the post war years? Anyway, I'll be seeking a horn...
Yes indeed Bob. As far as I have worked out, there were two styles of HF180. The pre war type had six screws around the bezel the next type had a rolled edge. Both were pressed steel with a removable back. Then came the post war HF 180A ('A' is often added as Amended) which is the type with the cast body and looks more like a Lucas Altette. Ron
