I'm probably resurrecting an old post here, but did we ever establish if the Norton 16H is fitted with a different jet block in the carburetter to other makes ? Apart from the clip-fitting, it is a standard 276..............
When I stripped my carb down, I noticed that the block contained a seperate pair of air holes just inside the bellmouth rather than the normal one-hole arrangement on most other bikes............
Was this a Norton thing, an anomaly and, if correct, why was this fitted and what was the purpose/advantages/disadvantages ? Mine still has this 2-hole block fitted, but I can substitute with the standard 1-hole type NOS if necessary............the block fitted also has nothing to do with the earlier type 76 carb with the air holes around the base...........
You have the correct Norton type jet block for use with the 276/011 type body.
The only reason that I can imagine for the use of this carb on Nortons was to avoid altering the spares inventory. It has a smoother inlet tract but lacks the 276/R's overflow so blows excess fuel out of the inlet...
