Norton 16H

 photo census-number_zpsd2d68210.jpg

Nice shot of a 1940 Norton 16H during "inspection" in the UK, circa 1941-42......unit markings seem to suggest Royal Artillery but Rik's the expert here !!!!

Bike is from contract C.7353, the same as my own...........my serial is C 4397655 so this bike isn't a million miles away........although mine ended up in India by 1945........

Re: Norton 16H

Could be Royal Signals white over blue diamond?

Re: Norton 16H

I usually associate these rhomboids with Royal Artillery but the Home Commands and areas during the early war period are horribly complicated - can anyone identify the formation sign on the sergeant's sleeve ?

Steve, the nearest bike that I have on file to yours is C4397359 (presumably W37333 ?) - It has been refinished and is wearing a Vokes. Also in India...

It is IWM IND 3728 but isn't in their on-line collections.

Re: Norton 16H

Thanks Rik ! This fits in with mine being overhauled in India in 1945 by "501 Command Workshops IME" (based at Chaklala).........entire piston in the bike carried these markings.............on top and cast by the workshops and they did a fine job of replicating the Norton original..............

This is her today (the bike, not Mrs M....)
