Just a wondering if my 1954 M21 bike could have been an RAF bike ?
Reason i ask is its been painted light blue all over inside and out of the tinware, frame etc .
Can i find out on here or do i need the Beezer club to do a search ?
Just an idle thought before i decide what colour to paint the old girl .
I'm not aware of the RAF using any plunger models..
Looking at the pictures you posted of the bike neither blue looks like RAF 'blue/grey' and the bike would have been finished completely in that (one) colour...
So on balance it is probably just a colour scheme that someone liked the look of...
Standard colours for 1954 were black for all painted parts with the exception of the petrol tank which was all maroon with the large type chrome tank badges (the same as those fitted to B Models that year)...
It looks from your pictures as if you have the rear mudguard from a rigid model fitted...Note the mudguard stay bracket by the 'join' in the guard...
Plunger models had a hinged rear mudguard without the 'drop off' tail piece...and that bracket....
The 'Ariel' type full width front hub (and fork bottoms) are also fitted...
These were used for the 56/7 season on B Models whilst the M21 had the half width 8" BSA brake and associated parts....Ian
Thanks Ian , i thought it was a bit of a mongrel , just seemed unusual having all the inside of the tinware light blue as well , most probably as you say done at a later date , 70s hippy bike .
The dark blue paint was definitely toshed on at a later date , they even painted over the straps holding the wireing loom on frame .
It was just seeing a picture of a RAF bike on this sites pics that got me a wondering .
