Captive Nuts

On certain fittings that can't be seen (e.g. inside mudguards) would it be wrong to weld nuts onto them so that assembly with the wheel on is less fiddly?

Re: Captive Nuts

No reason why not really...There are already two for the bolts that retain the mudguard tail piece...Ian

Re: Captive Nuts

You'll give the rivet counters fits, but really why would you bother? the mudguards will probably get damaged with the welding as well. How many times do you take your mudguards off??

Re: Captive Nuts

I lost the nut from the bolt that attaches the front toolbox bracket to the mudguard...I had to take the wheel out to get at it... ..

Shakeproof washers and Loctite for me now on all the hard to get at fasteners...Ian
