Pannier and rear mudguard mounting

My bike has been in bits for so long that I cannot remember where some bits go.

With regard to mounting the rear grab (used to get the bike on its centre stand if you didn't have panniers), does the hexagonal spacer fit between the grab and the pannier mounting (my pannier mounting has the two long arms that attach to the seat pillars).

I presume that the shoulders bolt then screw into the ends.

Thanks for your help.

Re: Pannier and rear mudguard mounting

Thanks Ron.

Exactly what I needed and looks like I fitted it correctly.

Re: Pannier and rear mudguard mounting

Now that's exactly what I've got on my M20 and for 40 odd years I though it had been cobbled together by some idiot in an army workshop as it fits so badly. Incidentally I got stopped by the police in 1970 at the IOW Festival because the stop/tail light could not be see from the side because of the panniers. But on reflection I think the cop just wanted a closer look at the "chick" on the pillion!

Is it me, or do you not see many chicks riding pillion anymore?

Re: Pannier and rear mudguard mounting

Not on my pillion unfortunately...I only get old broilers these days...

However, there seem to be plenty at the big annual charity run that finishes on Plymouth Hoe...Ian

Re: Pannier and rear mudguard mounting

Just saw the photo at the beginning of the website showing the lucas light.

My query though is on the pannier fitting.

Instead of a simple nut securing everything together, mine has a sort of shouldered nut and bolt that screws into the hexagonal spacer.

Was this original and if so what was it for (e.g. were bungees invented then?)?

Re: Pannier and rear mudguard mounting

Speaking of that rear lamp: Didn't realize that some Lucas 1130 lens covers have the Lucas information on them, I have a couple with non of that and the surface is pebbled.

Re: Pannier and rear mudguard mounting

I wish that you buggers would save the original photo that you're referring to because it will disappear shortly at the whim of the webmeister...and he's notoriously erratic.

I've never seen any evidence for the pre-war use of coloured plastic light lenses. It's clear with the more common MT110 that plastic lenses exist (albeit without lettering) but my guess is that this lens must be a post-war replacement.

It's probably not surprising that Lucas were supplying parts for the pre-war vehicle park well into the 1950s.

Re: Pannier and rear mudguard mounting

Well, bugger me How did you save the forum pic of the 1130, Rik? If I right click on the picture, nothing shows to allow saving it. Can easily save every other pic on the forum, but not the one up front.

Hadn't occurred to me that there are two types of lenses, one being glass and the other plastic. It does says Lucas 1130 and looks like plastic. Hope this doesn't send the owner of this machine into a tail spin thinking that they have to now find an original glass lens.

Wade - I use Fireshot

https://getfireshot.com/

The absolute dog's bollocks for saving any image that you're not meant to. Even those difficult eBay shots or from commercial archives.

Whose is the bike anyway ?

Re: Pannier and rear mudguard mounting

I think is Jon Small's deluxe M20 and that looks like him sitting there.

I just right click and save as.... Not sure that I have anything special with my computer. Here is the current picture of Martyn changing his return spring. Ron
