Anyone else been out on a bike today ? It is a public holiday here in Belgium and the weather has been co-operating today.
I rode down to the Dyle line where the original custodians of my 16H first took up position on 10th May 1940.
I also visited the single grave of a Trooper from 15th/19th Royal Hussars, killed by bombing on 11th May 1940 and the cemetery at Heverlee.
and had some fun lining up 'Then & Nows' in Leuven.
....followed by a quick ride back in the dark worrying about just how visible an MT110 is, in between all the modern over-bright stuff. The 25w headlamp bulb is nothing to write home about, either.
Looks like a good time. Didn't go out today, but Jim and I went out for a very cold morning ride on Sunday, followed by attendance at veterans appreciation show and ended with a very interesting ride home in the dark. I found the tail lamps OK and actually quite easy to see, the problem I found was that the headlamp really wasn't bright enough to properly illuminate the way down very dark roads. Anyways, I think that was enough night riding to do me for a long time! :-)
It was warm here today. Open-faced helmet and collar open weather !
I'm happy enough with my tail light when it's dark but it doesn't stand out if I'm behind a German car with a battery of LEDs and they were driving like nutters this evening. A substantial minority here has no problem about driving home drunk either.
I need to refocus my headlamp. I fitted a nice original broad arrow marked bulb but haven't got rid of the black hole in the middle yet.
I put about 80 miles on the bike. At this rate, I could almost start to trust it again !
sunny but really cold I don't have a military bike anymore but I have boxed my Harley up for the winter using 8'x4' sheets of ply I put a murry mint in with it so it is mint and boxed rik what is the bike with you Norton
Roger, the other bike is a Belgian Gillet 'Estafette' from the early 1950s. It's a 500 side valve and although it looks old-fashioned, it is unit construction with a swing-arm rear suspension.
It's all a bit back to front to my eyes - kickstart on the left, chain on the right. It has a Lucas Magdyno and Amal carb and levers.
