I acquired this Velocette MAF a while ago. The engine had been built into a pre war crankcase for some reason. I heard a whisper of someone in the Netherlands who might have some genuine MAF crankcases. So I phoned someone in NL who put me on to someone who put me on to someone else.......Who only had my original cases!!!
It turns out that some bright spark, had the idea to drill a sodding great hole by the engine number to try and fit some sort of timing gauge, and the cases ended up being scrapped.
Anyway the new owner had the hole welded up, and has now returned the cases to me in return for other MAF parts. I have been working on them with a flap wheel and fine W&D paper and they have now gone for vapour blasting.
Once the engine is rebuilt, stories of a stray bullet will abound. Ron
Why would you be surprised. I know several people who have bought an old buff logbook on ebay and unbelievably they have found the correct matching frame in their loft. JT
