This will probably be familiar to a lot of you. Riding back from a weekend away clutch starts slipping, get home and second diagnosis (first was standing in pub car park looking at it with pint in hand) and fairly clear that oil has leaked under the cover, it had been fitted with silicone sealer and no gasket. After impressively firing the spring across the shed it is now dismantled, wondering how on earth I am going to get the spring back on? It would be nice to get a suitable tool for roadside repair, I do use the bike for weekends away and rallies. Thoughts appreciated, also top tips on cleaning fibre clutch plates.

You can clean the plates by simmering them (gas mark 2 ) in an old saucepan or similar with a strong mix of washing up liquid/washing powder and water.
Place in a warm environment and allow to dry completely before use...
Check the surface of the 'top hat' to make sure it isn't distorted around the screw holes (not flat)...If it isn't flat you should tap the surface down and dress with a smooth file to get it as flat as possible...
When the time comes to replace the fibre plates I get them made in a material that is tolerant to oil (and the correct thickness)...They are £42 for the set of 8....Ian
Funny, hardly anyone ever seems to have a look at the Technical Section of the website
There are several solutions to deal with that spring. Also, Robb Nortier,of britool51@hotmail.com makes a portable device
Thanks all, top tips indeed and good reminder about the tech pages. I was going to add some snaps to the gallery but struggling to find an address, i.t. not my strongest subject.
