There is a special tool for removal of the cups...It's basically just a bar with a thread machined on the end...
This screws into the thread in the cup, a bar/punch is then inserted from the opposite end of the headstock and the cup and tool are driven out with a hammer...
If you don't want to reuse the cups you can run a line of arc weld around the inside of the cup...As it cools it will shrink the cup and it will fall out..
Alternatively weld a short length of metal across the cup and use the punch and hammer from the other end...
Personally I no longer use cups and cones but fit the sealed ball bearing kit instead...Ian

Thanks Ian, the sealed kit sounds ideal - where can I get them from please?
Gary.
I'm easy to find Gary! I'm on here every day!
But I sold the last one of those tools, maybe a year ago. I did tell Robb!! Best I can offer is loan you mine. But you don't need it if you are replacing the bearings....as Ian explained. Ron
