Dull and Duller...

I've been taking a look at the three new 'limited edition' ( ) Triumph Bonnevilles on Danny's 'Sump Magazine' website....

Jesus...Is that really the best Hinkley can come up with..?

A new paintjob and a tenuous link to some past event or obscure place don't really make for a rush of adrenalin in my book...

How about a Thruxton Bonneville with a seriously tweaked engine and some quality fork, brake and suspension components, alloy rims and spokes, stainless fasteners...and perhaps they could throw in a new tank and seat (and fairing?) to complete the look...

In other words a proper 'top of the range, limited production' model, not some half assed warm up of another sad idea...It would cost more but I'm sure there are people out there in consumer land who would be prepared to pay for a more high spec. Bonneville with a better finish...

It seems to me that all interest will rapidly be lost in a stream of 'limited edition' models that aren't really different enough or good enough to warrant that description...

What do I know though?...The punters flocked to buy the cringe inducing 'Great Escape' limited edition Bonneville even though Triumph didn't even take the trouble to get the colour right.. ..Dumb and Dumber?..Ian

Re: Dull and Duller...

It's just a new colour scheme for 2015. I don't disagree with what your saying Ian, every company has a flag ship, top of the range bike. I don't know what Triumph's is as I don't follow wwhat they're doing, but I'm guessing it's not the Bonnie. The usual problem when a British bike company makes a new bike is that it's usually too expensive and they don't make an affordable bike for the masses, Triumph ARE doing this, hence they're still going. I would like a new Norton, I think they look fantastic.... but not at £16,000. These companies don't ever seem to make small bikes either. When you're 17 and want a bike, you get a Honda and it's a good bike, so you buy a bigger Honda. How many Honda 50's have been made..? That's a market that Triumph, Norton etc have never catered for.

Re: Dull and Duller...

Two of them may just be a rehash of the Bonnie for 2015..(and people accuse Harley Davidson of endlessly remodelling the same bikes, don't most manufacturers do that in reality?)...

However, the T214 is being sold as a limited edition model, with only a thousand being made...

I still don't see any standout features though apart from the fact it's a different colour... ... ....Ian

Re: Dull and Duller...

They build them that way because it sells and is profitable. If you want a nostalgia bike, you don't care about performance. Corporations focus group the shit out of their products and I'll bet Triumph already confirmed this. Triumph's sporty models don't look old.
