Wiring connector MT110

Dear all,

Yesterday I was going to rebuilt the missing wiring connector and feather for my MT110 Tail light. See example image I have found in the Internet.

But I can not fit my thread gauge into the thread of the tail light. Could anyone give me the data’s of the thread so I can build it on my lathe or does anyone have such a part available for sale?

Also on some bikes I have seen wiring connectors like below but,

a.) I don't know where they shall be mounted and
b.) why do I need them.

Found a thread in the Forum about the wiring connectors that there are rebuilt ones available. But do I need them?

Maybe someone can answer my questions.
Thanks
Phillip

Re: Wiring connector MT110

Philip, I believe that the lamp connector is 3/8" x 40 ME (Model Engineer's) thread.

I'm not sure about that spring in the photograph. I've not seen one and don't understand the purpose of it.

Military Nortons certainly used several of the in-line connectors on their rubber-covered wiring but I don't know if they were also a feature of the civilian loom. It's quite possible that they were specified by the War Office to aid dismantling of certain components.

Tim who posts on here has an original 1935 16H. He might well know.

Re: Wiring connector MT110

Hello Phillip
I have a couple of NOS fag end lights that have the same brass connector. As WM20's have a detachable tail piece you need the brass connector to be able to remove the tail piece

Re: Wiring connector MT110

The 4-part screw-together wiring connector (3 x brass parts, 1 x rubber sleeve) featured fairly early-on on WD bikes........and as mentioned, generally featured on the tail-lamp lead to permit tail-section removal...........

The fitting persevered throughout the whole of WW2, and was also employed in other places, often used as a battery postive-lead connector and on the James ML as a junction for the flywheel magneto power lead..........

These items have been long-extinct and may well have been a specific WD-only component ? I'm not certain.........

ONLY known supplier today is/was Russell Motors............they may still have some left.........I bought a quantity around 6 - 7 years ago now, and some were as good as the day they were made whilst others were on their last legs, with the rubber-outer completely hardened and misshapen........with the latter, I simply immersed in a bowl of boiling water which softened the hard rubber outer and was able to push the inner brass connector assembly out..........thereafter, I simply replaced the rubber outer with a suitable length of black rubber tubing cut to size........ If you want to be totally authentic, these are necessary to complete a WD wiring loom on almost all bikes.........

Re: Wiring connector MT110

There was another reply, where the connectors were advertised on Ebay, repro's, but very well made, I'm not selling anymore originals, now that someone made them.

Sorry,

Lex,
I think you are talking about the wiring connector (smaller ID), not the MT110 connector that Phillip is looking for (and me too). Otherwise can you please post the seller's link?

Re: Wiring connector MT110

Phillip was also talking, ad Steve too, about the smaller one!

Can't find it right now.

Cheers,
