Rear support stud repair

On the left rear frame I have a stripped stud :( . Of course there's a lot piled on this stud ( including the mudguard supports, pannier supports, and the field stand clip, so it needs to be a solid repair. Has anybody successfully repaired this stud with a helicoil? Any other advice?

Re: Rear support stud repair

Vince, I had one strip once. I drilled and tapped the hole to 3/8" with a BSCycle thread and got my matel to make me a special stud with a 3/8" end and turned down to 5/15" for the bit that shows. Then I loctited it in the frame. I seem to remember that I used a slim back nut behind. Ron

Re: Rear support stud repair

Hi Vincent, I got mine from Unithread. www.uni-thread.com/. or you could try Trojan Motorcycles down your part of the world. I have ordered a NOS intermediate timing gear from them recently and it worked out cheaper to get it from Australia, paying postage etc. to Ireland than getting one from the UK and paying sterling to euro charges, postage etc. Its a funny old world.
