I have no oil circulation on my wd matchless.
Over the winter I did some work on the bike, also disconnected the oil pipes,
removed the oil tank etc.
I bought the bike last summer, and then it was working fine.
When I put it back together I cleaned the inside of the oil tank with a cloth and steel rod. Put in new filter.
After starting it again the first time I had no oil circulation. I disconnected the oil pipes from the oil tank again, thinking I had clogged the pipes, by getting in some dirt from the bottom of the tank. The return line was a bit clogged, but I could blow it out with my mouth.
After putting everything back still no oil circulation.
I don't want to start the engine again, with no lubrication. Should I be able to see circulation by turning it over with the kick starter?
I red the maintenance manual, but no help there. Could there be air in the line's some where. Or do I need to prime the pump or something like that.
The oil pipe feeding the rocket arms is full with oil, but the engine makes raw sounds, you can hear there's no oil in there.
If the bike has rubber pipes fitted have you put them on the wrong way round the bottom pipe is from the tank to the engine the top one goes back through the filter into the tank . You will not get it to work by kicking it over .Get some oil in the engine before you do anything .lay it down and get sum in through the sump plug . Then if all pipes are correct try it with all that oil in it should return it very soon .
check that the pipes are around the correct way, check and make sure that theres no crap in the engine case its self.
if had a couple of G3Ls that took a while for the oil to come through but fine after that..
Thanks guys. I have metal pipes, so there's only one way of fitting them.
But I will check tomorrow to be sure. I have heard before, it will take a couple of minutes before it start flowing, but I think there's no oil in the crank case so I don't want to run it that long.
Getting some oil in would be a very good idea, maybe a stupid question, but where do I find this sump plug.
When I look at ill. 22 of the maintenance manual I see a number 33;
plug screw for crankcase oil passage, is this the one?

No its a plug in on the underside of the engine get down on your knees and you will see it if you lay your bike down you will get some oil in that hole make sure you have no petrol in the tank .

Hi Menno, as Ron says Matchless machines take a long time for the oil to return. I usually back fill my oil pipes by filling the oil filter tube with oils and allowing it to seep into the tube. I then take my bike out and ride it half a mile and usually the oil then returns. If you just let the bike tick over on the stand it will take for ever and you will convince yourself that there is something wrong. If you still have no oil returning to the tank take the end cap off the end of the pump nearest the front wheel and get someone to turn the engine over on the kick starter so you can look at the pump and check that it is revolving and reciprocating. If it is not then you have a problem with the pin which will not be engaged in the slot in the pump body. Incidentally these pins wear and I would always fit a new one. When they wear it stops you getting any oil to the rocker box. If all this checks out then take the oil filter. Out again. I have known that some of these pattern filters are faulty and do not let oil pass through them. Cheers, John
Hi Guys,
Good news, I have oil circulation again!
I have filled the crankcase with some oil, removed the oil filter,
and then drove up and down the street.
I was probably too impatience, or too careful but this was the solution.
After putting in the new filter it took a while, but then I had good circulation again.
Now I have a new "problem" I will post it in a new topic.
My kick-starter seems to slip...
