Re: matchless g3l threads

Dont know the size but its cycle thread there is a rod threaded at both ends with a nut on each end a fire engine repair is to weld the stripped nut on to the shaft and tighten the other one.

Re: matchless g3l threads

i cant remember the size but i normally get the nuts from russell motors, i take it your talking about the riders foot rest?

Re: matchless g3l threads

yes that's the one,I realised after posting it is 26 tpi cycle so should be able to get one from my local Brit bike shop at the weekend,Russels is a bit of a trek for one nut,but I think it would be worth contacting them and getting a stock of nuts and bolts in as we are bound to lose a few in Normandy

Re: matchless g3l threads

Hi Nigel

If matchless used cycle threads like BSA, as I suspect they did, I have heaps of it

We'll sort out a stash for you later today when I'm over

Pretty sure it's 7/16" 26tpi thread.

Can check if needed?

Re: matchless g3l threads

sounds about right Lex,unfortunately I have a feeling the thread on the footrest bar is damaged so I will have to get a die nut to run down it,and see you later John

Re: matchless g3l threads

Nigel, if the threads are damaged, there's no chance it will stand up to the tightening, even with a new nut, this assy has to be really tight!! otherwise everything will move about, and wear out the engine plates and engine cases, as I've seen so many times.

So a new rod might be the best.

my 2 cents,

Lex
