I am reconditioning the engine for my James ML and it clearly needs a rebore. However, I cannot find any reference to what the piston clearance should be for the rebore. If anyone can help with this information I would be most grateful. Cheers JT
Usually if it's a Hepolite piston they usually say on the box what the correct bore size shall be. Does it list the bore size in the workshop manual? If they do you simply add the correct oversize to that size and it should be correct.. I never used to believe this myself when I only had this information but that is the way it was supposed to be done.
I just bought a new Hepolite +30 piston from "Villiers Services" They told me to give a skirt clearance of 3 thou and no more.
There was also a label in the box that gave a figure of 1.5 thou for every 1" diam of piston.
I've just had mine honed out to that clearance. Ron
