Mystery rear stand pictures

Does anyone recognize this rear stand? I only have Ariel rear stands to compare it to. Compared to Ariel, the castings are much heavier.
Thank you,
Wade

Re: Mystery rear stand pictures

Hi Wade,
It looks like a Matchless stand to me, normally there are casting numbers starting 37G3 on the inside.
Cheers, Mick.

Yes, Matchless, with a repair, that will not last very long I think.

Re: Mystery rear stand pictures

Thanks Mick. No numbers match on the casting numbers. Without blasting the paint off, the cast numbers appear to be 017108. 1/2" to the right is an oblong circle with a line symbol inside. This is the same on both legs.

No repair there Lex. Not sure what the green stuff is. Stand has been in storage for a long time. Will pass it along as soon as identity is established.

Does this exactly match for one of your Matchless bikes? What model years?

Thanks a lot,

Wade

Re: Mystery rear stand pictures

Wade, sorry, looked like a braze repair, but could indeed be something else.
Have seen The oval logo's before, this could also be a Thriump stand, they were very similar to Matchless, Ron will know for sure.

Re: Mystery rear stand pictures

Thanks Lex. I my need to blast it unless it becomes immediately identifiable to someone with the same model. Perhaps Ron will know.

Re: Mystery rear stand pictures

Hey Wade, just checked the Matchless old to new part number conversion list and the later number for the stand is 017107, so i suspect it is Matchless.

Re: Mystery rear stand pictures

Ok, then it must be Matchless! Used from about 1938 to 1950.

Re: Mystery rear stand pictures

That's great! Thanks so much Mick and Lex for following through. I've wondered for years what it could be and had no way of knowing. I can pass it on now to someone who needs it.
All the best to both of you,
Wade

Re: Mystery rear stand pictures

£160 on ebay right now

Re: Mystery rear stand pictures

Yep, that's it alright. Thanks Ken. Interesting how made in India by Bulletwalla advertises prices of both £149.99 and £79.99 for the same stand! I noticed the same on Ariel stands recently and went for the cheaper price. Must say that the stand has arrived and I am very pleased with it. Any idea what they normally trade for with forum members?
Cheers,
Wade
