I have seen reported by the Motor Cycling Club that hidden in the small print of the last budget is an annual £75 tax for all historic vehicles regardless of engine capacity of number of wheels. Has anyone else heard of this? If true it is a complete turn around from the free tax which was only recently introduced. Cheers

I checked the DVLA website ref. vehicle tax charges from 1-4-2014 onwards and there are no changes to rates...
The only change is that the 'rolling year' for the tax exemption of historic vehicles has been reintroduced. So, as from the date above, vehicles registered before 1-1-74 will be tax exempt (changed from the current date of 1-1-73)...Ian
rumour is that when the no tax disc come into play in October that the tax will not be transferable when you sell your vehicle you will cash in what is left of your tax and the new owner will have to re tax it I was wondering whether some one has got hold of the wrong end of the stick ie if you sell your car/bike and don't want to get cash back for your tax it would go with the vehicle like is does now any ideas
Roger I would think it's a precaution against people selling a car to someone "with some tax still on it" & then after the sale cashing it in without telling the new owner, until Oct to do that would mean surrendering the old disc but as no disc will be present it changes the situation, it's a good idea to have it finish & need renewing at point of sale as the vehicle needs to be insured to get tax.
I really like the idea of no tax disc as it started to feel a bit ridiculous getting a piece of paper in the post & fixing to my vehicles particularly as out of my 6 road legal vehicles most are zero rated historic tax & MOT exempt.
I put a very nice, original 1930s, all brass tax disc holder to one side about 2 years back to fit to my M20 during its current rebuild, so I'm a bit miffed about it... ...
I think I might get one of those replica 'war service' discs to put in there instead... ...Ian

That item was reported verbatim on the MCC's NOTW weekly newsletter from an independent correspondent and was not corroborated in any way nor "reported" by the MCC themselves.
Clearly it has alarmed many people who have a variety of machines (in my case from Velosolex size upwards) who could stand to be paying a fair amount of money to the Government every year IF this item is correct.
No doubt other MCC members will do some checking and report.
You'll all be pleased to know that this seems to have been a plausible April Fool's jape started off by the Sunbeam Alpine Owners club.
Apparently plenty of people got taken in and have sold all their Bruff Supps etc at give-away prices (some even less than £100000 would you believe)at the thought of stumping up a few quid to the coalition.
