Re: Before and After pictures from Bill

Cheers Ron. As we have started talking about the AJS Model 26 in the Matchless Gearbox thread. I thought I'd add a photo of my 1937 example. I'm not signed up to the photo bucket thing yet, so Ron did it for me. These are the before and after photos showing old bike. The tank was too thin to take a chroming, but at that time, 20 years ago, you could pick a good replacement up for a few quid. The white blackout paint on the front mudguard is a copy of what I found when I started cleaning the old one up. It seems to have gone off the road half way through WW2.

Re: Before and After pictures from Bill

Looks like it would handle like a ww1 tank.

That's an incredible restoration Bill It's hard to believe you managed to save that bike. Really beautiful..!

That's a bit rude!
My mate Indian Tim had a 1938 350 Matchless twin port. Black and chrome. They really are pretty bikes and perform and handle well.

Re: Before and After pictures from Bill

Well, I don't know anything about WW1 tanks!

Thanks for the comments. It's not a restoration I'd tackle again, but it wasn't quite as bad as it looks, most of the important parts were there and quite usable. My biggest regret is that I didn't even get to keep the useful old bread trolley it was sat on.

Re: Before and After pictures from Bill

Well done Bill, youve done a grand job. I see it even came with its tank top trouble lamp intact, usually the first item lost. Love those upswept pipes.
