looking for G3L health check

Hi,

I just bought a '44 G3L to join the OMG2014 tour, however I'm not sure if the bike will make it towards Arnhem without problems. Is somebody willing to check my bike in the upcoming months? I'm living next to the liberation route in Aalst-Waalre.

Re: looking for G3L health check

Congratulations! A man of taste and distinction! Assuming you have carried out basic checks on the bike (frame - no cracks, serious corrosion; brakes - they work and are adjusted correctly with torque arms secure in place; grab front forks with bike on rear stand and check the steering has no serious play in it; tele forks are working OK and not seized - any sign of oil loss from fork tubes?; wheels aligned - check with straight edge between them - rotate freely but no wobbles and spokes all present and correct and pinging nicely; oil is in the tank and clean - if in doubt CHANGE IT!); gearbox with either oil or grease in and selecting OK; spark plug looks healthy and there is decent compression - you can stand on the kickstart for a few seconds) then if its starts (which means the mag is workiong!) and the oil is circulating OK - and it rides ok, selecting all gears and stopping OK, the best health check is to point it at the countryside and go for a 20 mile ride. Then if it all works OK and nothing has fallen off, take it for a 40 mile ride. Check again, but likely the rides will have shown up a couple of issues - hopefully small - to rectify, remembering that if it ain't broke, don't fix it! Sometimes at that point you might need an expert eye to check over anything that worries you after this "stress testing". Sometimes the dynamo won't work - common problem - but either fix it or forget (unless you want to ride in the dark) - check by switching on headlamp and see if it glows brigher when you rev the engine. If it's still riding well after all that, its probably good to go to Arnhem. Good luck!
