I've been noticing 2 Lucas ammeters that look like the type fitted to WD bikes, but one has a slot across the dial. Are they from different years and were they both fitted to WD bike. The one with the slot even has a green bezel.
What are the dates Horror? probably the green bezel one is older......the dates are on the back, 3 numbers...1 number for the month, 2 others for the year (unless its from the 30s which is unlikely because until 1939 they still had domed a glass). check the earlier post about the horn insulating triangle for an example of these dates.
Definitely for illumination (from the headlmap bulb) and standard on the pre-war instruments. There should be a thin acetate window in the case. This one is dated 11 39
It was installed in conjunction with a headlamp reflector which also had a small slot.
Thanks for the info, when was this used until? I'm guessing the one without the slot is later? Or were they both used at the same time for different bikes?
Sorry, I don't have any dates, I don't own the items.
