I have these photos from an Australian website mentioned here on the forum last week. These photos can be downloaded as .jpg or as .tiff. The .tiff version can be enlarged endlessly it seems. Great photos, I can email them if you want.
I wonder if anybody notices, but this is a 1938 built WD16H sent to Australia, it has a right hand rear petrol tank cut out and it has the early version of Vokes connecting strips as well as non-adjustable hose connections.
Only early Nortons had the cut-out. Later on they just used the normal tanks, where other brands introduced the cut-out. Still no idea why!
The filter to tank connection became a more adjustable one also the hose to carburetter connection became adjustable for gereric fitting I assume.
What you see here is the earliest application of the Vokes tank top, a development from Norton, later adopted for general use.
Right hand footrest seems to be a bit crude, not resembling a Norton part.
I already started a topic about this filter. Yes these are an early tank Horror. Another thing to note with them, is that the petrol cap hinge is at 9 o'clock rather than the normal 6 o'clock. The filter equipped Big 4's also had this type cap.Norton's were definitely fitting filters well before it became standard practice.
