Further kickstart problems

Hi All

I had a problem over a month ago now where the kickstart quadrant had worn right down and was'nt functioning properly. I have now replaced that with a NOS one. All put back together and when I kick down I just hear a ratchet crunching sound. I took it apart again and saw the kickstart ratchet and pinion were quite worn and I believed it was those two that were skipping over each other. So I replaced these with what seem to be NOS parts from Draganfly. All back together today and the same thing happens... I even tried putting the old quadrant back but the same thing happens. I suppose it could be the spacing between the quadrant teeth and the ratchet teeth but I don't understand why this never happened before and why it suddenly does it with NOS parts. Or could it stil be the rathet and pinion. Its fining kicking over with the decompressor on but seems it can't handle the compression of a kick.

Just thought i'd ask if it has happened to anyone else before I spend further money on parts I don't actually need.

Many thanks!

Re: Further kickstart problems

Had similar problem with my M20....replaced the bush the quadrant runs through (in the casing) that cured the problem

Re: Further kickstart problems

Are you sure the problem isn't the crankshaft shock absorber?...Ian

Re: Further kickstart problems

George: That may be the case. It did seem a little warn. I did try to replace it but couldn't get it out let alone move. Will probably try this unless anyone else has any other ideas.

Ian: The sound is definitely coming from the gearbox itself. I replaced the shock spring so I would imagine it should be fine unless the spring was so strong it wasn't giving enough "give" so the kickstart mechanism couldn't cope with the sudden shock.
