anti wet-sumping valve

Is it necessary to keep the non return valve (spring and ball) in place while using an anti wet-sumping valve in the oil feed tube ?
Sometime I have these thoughts

Re: anti wet-sumping valve

Hi John..Not really, the in line valve has taken over that function.
However, I would ask alternative questions...Why fit an additional valve when you already have one? (well two actually)...Also, why not consider some new pump gears or a new pump to reduce the problem and improve oil volumes at the same time?..Ian

Re: anti wet-sumping valve

The danger of an anti-wet sumping valve is that you forget to open it. I have fitted one and use it when I park the bike and don't intend to ride it for a while. Otherwise I rely on the installed ball and spring.

Re: anti wet-sumping valve

Peter I think the anti wet sumping valve discussed is the after market device that fits in the oil line with a ball and spring. I have heard of these failing and ruin your day. Ron

Re: anti wet-sumping valve

Just drain the oil, when it has been standing for a while. (this is safe and cheap and you remove dirt at the same time)
And sometimes it works to hit the ball (of the original valve) in it's seat.
